  • Jon-Ersgården’s Damask Workshop can be found in the old farmhouse.
  • Damask is a weaving technique which is based on the contrast between warp and weft.
  • In order to weave damask cloth, you need a special drawloom and a series of 10-100 shafts with pattern heddles.
  • You can also weave damask brocade, which is even more time-consuming.
  • Another way to set up the loom is to use a harnesk or single unit drawloom. It is simpler to assemble but is more time-consuming since you tie fixed patterns in lashes.
  • Damask is a type of weaving which takes a long time, mostly because the loom is so complicated to set up but also because you weave patterns which change in structure every fourth to eighth weft row.
  • Damask cloth was often woven for the royal family.
  • Linen damask is well known, but other materials, such as silk also make beautiful woven fabrics.
  • At Jon-Ersgården, we make to order woven works of art in damask cloth, as well as textiles for use in churches
